Heirlooms we don’t have in our family. But stories we’ve got.”
This weekend I will be attending my family reunion. We are expecting a big turn out, and for me, that’s good. I come from an amazing family of strong women and the strong men who live with them. Their roots are mainly here in Lorain County but some have wandered far and started their own branches in far flung places. My brother and his family from Albuquerque, niece from Denver, cousin from Seattle, but the main attraction is my aunts (4) and my Mom. The youngest is 88 the oldest 95. Still active, living full lives. They have all had hardships in their lives but they are the very definition of grace under fire. I love and look up to every one of them. I know their stories (especially growing up in the depression) by heart; but I can’t wait to hear them again. We will talk about my wonderful, funny, loving Grandpa and his stinky cigars ! We will coo over new babies and welcome them home.
If you haven’t had a family reunion in a while, plan one. You should check your roots on a regular basis, it’s good for the soul
