LifeCare personnel will be training in a new device that has shown in trials to improve the survival rate in adult patients with non-traumatic cardiac arrest. An increase of 49 % survival as compared to conventional CPR – that is a big number. The neurological intact survival of these patients increased by 50% at one year; another important statistic. The system consists of “The combination of the ResQPUMP and ResQPOD works by lowering pressures inside the chest with each decompression. This negative intrathoracic pressure pulls more venous blood back to the heart from the brain and the rest of the body, which in turn increases the refilling of the heart”. This is a very interesting and important addition to our arsenal of adjuncts to be used to better care for our patients. Happy training !
